Successfully launch of the Eu:CROPIS mission

03.12.18

The Falcon 9 with the Eu: CROPIS (Euglena and Combined Regenerative Organic-Food Production in Space) satellites on board was successfully launched on December 3rd 2018 at 19:34 CET along with 63 other satellites from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California.

The Eu: CROPIS was placed in an orbit at 600 kilometers altitude.

Inside the satellite there are two greenhouses, a biofilter, dwarf tomato seeds, single-celled algae and synthetic urine, which is used as a fertilizer. The mission is to show how biological life support systems can be used as a food supply on long-term missions.

STT has supplied the communication system for the DLR satellite, consisting of the S-Band TMTC and the S-Band antennas.

An initial contact between the satellite and the German Space Operations Center (GSOC) took place about one hour and 15 minutes after take-off.
